The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme is the UN organization that contributes to peace and development through volunteerism worldwide. Volunteerism is a powerful means of engaging people in tackling development challenges, and it can transform the pace and nature of development. Volunteerism benefits both society at large and the individual volunteer by strengthening trust, solidarity and reciprocity among citizens, and by purposefully creating opportunities for participation.
UNV contributes to peace and development by advocating for recognition of volunteers, working with partners to integrate volunteerism into development programming, and mobilizing an increasing number and diversity of volunteers, including experienced UNV volunteers, throughout the world.

UNV in SudanThe UNV programme in Sudan works with and through partners (UN agencies, funds and programmes and volunteer involving organizations) to integrate volunteers in programme country efforts to achieve national objectives. The programme contributes to development effectiveness through its advocacy activities, the advisory support in development programming and through the volunteers it deploys across the country.
More than 100 international and national UN Volunteers are currently deployed in different UN Agencies, Funds and Programmes in Sudan, under the management of the UNV Field Unit in Sudan. International UN Volunteers in Sudan represent more than 30 nationalities. The majority of UN Volunteers serve as Specialized Programme Officers with UNICEF, UNDP, UNFPA or as Protection and Field officers within UNHCR Operations In Sudan.

As a UN Volunteer you have the extraordinary opportunity to create beneficial change and have a positive impact on people's lives. Even if your UNV assignment is fairly short, it can have a long-term impact and achieve a ripple effect that extends far beyond the immediate beneficiaries of your efforts.
Your role as a UN Volunteer is that of both facilitator and catalyst. UNV encourages you to be creative and entrepreneurial in finding ways to develop capacity and to promote and foster volunteerism for peace and development - both within and beyond the formal framework of your assignment.
UN Volunteers globally come from around 160 countries and many more cultural backgrounds, and thanks to this wide variety of perspectives they bring a range of experiences, expectations and approaches. This diversity gives their work a particular dynamism.
UN Volunteers are thus part of a global, cumulative effort that integrates volunteerism as a core contribution to peace and development: and the concept of volunteerism for peace and development is at the core of UNV’s mission.
At the request of UN agencies, national governments and other partners, UNV mobilizes close to volunteers to work in Development Assistance projects and in Humanitarian and Peacekeeping Operations. Although UN Volunteers from diverse professional and technical backgrounds are always in demand, there are particular areas of expertise where potential volunteers with relevant backgrounds and skills are more frequently requested.

Community Volunteering in Sudan
UNV Field Unit in Sudan runs and organize many community initiatives where young people come together to give to their communities. This includes different trainings, outreach activities, school rehabilitations, campaigns and other events, etc.
